What Kind Of Jeep Do I Have? TJ, JK,JKU, JL, JLU, JT...?...
At EZ4X4, we cater to the Jeep Wrangler TJ 1996 and up. Almost everyday, we run into folks that know they own a Jeep but may not be exactly sure what chassis code they have. We wrote this guide to help you understand the various Jeep Chassis Codes so you know what we are referring to when it comes to fitments.
Jeep Wrangler TJ 1996-2005: Introduced in 1996 as a 1997 model, the second-generation Wrangler reintroduced the round headlamps from the classic Jeep models. The main engine was the AMC 242 4.0 L inline 6. From the Wrangler TJ onwards, all Wranglers were fitted with coil-spring instead of leaf-spring suspension, the automatic shifter was relocated to the floor. In 2004, a long-wheelbase "Unlimited" model was introduced.
Jeep Wrangler JK & JKU 2006-2018: The third model of the Jeep Wrangler was the JK. This off-road vehicle was launched in the year 2006 at the New York Auto Show and the North American International Auto Show. The JK is similar to the previous models of the Wrangler in certain aspects. It has rigid live axles at the front and rear, a separate body and frame, and windshields that fold flat. The vehicle can be driven without doors. For the first time the Wrangler had a four door model called the JKU. The wheelbase of the JK was stretched by 20 inches unlike 10 inches in other Wrangler models. If you have a "JK", you have the 2-door model. If you have 4 doors, you have the "JKU" model.
